Activity Outline
How do you decide who needs to be referred now, who can wait, and who can be safely managed in the community? This session focuses on applying the new South Australian Clinical Prioritisation Criteria (CPC) to real-world glaucoma decision-making. Through targeted teaching and interactive case-based discussion, the session aims to sharpen your skills on risk stratification, diagnosis, detecting progression, and adapting management over time. This session is designed to build your confidence in making clear, defensible, CPC-aligned decisions in everyday optometric practice
Learning Objectives
- Apply the South Australia Glaucoma Clinical Prioritisation Criteria (CPC) to determine appropriate referral urgency in everyday practice.
- Assess glaucoma risk, disease severity, and progression using a structured framework.
- Justify management, referral, or non-referral decisions using CPC-aligned reasoning.
- Integrate evolving clinical information – including treatment response or patient specific factors into glaucoma management decisions.
Max CPD hours awarded: 2

Simi Sarin |
Simi Sarin is the Lead Clinical Optometrist at Adelaide Eye Surgeons, where she established an optometry-led glaucoma clinic within a collaborative care model. She works across private and hospital settings, including providing post-operative care. She was one of the first optometrists in Australia to be Advanced Practice Recognised in Glaucoma and has since also been involved as an assessor within the program.
In addition to her clinical role, Simi is a Lecturer at Flinders University and one of the lead educators in the Collaborative Eyecare Project for Ophthalmology (CEPOS), where she supervises final-year students in hospital-based glaucoma clinics. Prior to her current role, she worked in rural Western Australia, gaining valuable experience delivering care to underserviced communities and developing a strong commitment to improving equity of access through interdisciplinary collaboration. |
