Activity Outline

This module aims to help you to provide eye care that is deemed culturally responsive with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples. It should take about 1 hour to complete plus time for assessment. 

Learning Objectives

  • Demonstrate appropriate ways to ask patients if they identify as Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islander as part of standard practice protocols
  • Identify culturally appropriate ways to communicate with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander patients
  • Identify when and how to appropriately engage with Aboriginal Community Controlled Health Organisations/Services (ACCHO, ACCHS) or Aboriginal Medical Services (AMS) to support eye care delivery, especially in rural and remote areas
